The Program for Narrative and Emerging Media (NEM) is a best-in-class research, teaching and gathering venue, with a focus on diversifying the demographics of who gets to create and distribute narratives using emerging media technologies in the areas of arts, culture and nonfiction. The program is a collaborative effort between The Sidney Poitier New American Film School housed in the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts, and the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
The NEM Learning Technology Specialist supports the teaching faculty with the software and technical needs required to deliver classes, and works with students to assist in the delivery of their immersive projects. The successful candidate will have experience in game engine development (Unity and Unreal) with a working knowledge of 3D modeling software, 360 filming and editing, AR development and immersive sound; and stay up-to-date with new developments in immersive technology including virtual production, advising the NEM Director and Faculty of any significant changes or requirements needed to maintain ASU’s role as a best-in-class immersive narrative and production university. The NEM Learning Technology Specialist will also have primary responsibility for coordinating with ASU’s University Technology Office in Los Angeles for setting up, operating and maintaining equipment, software and technology required for running all NEM programs. The NEM Learning Technology Specialist is encouraged to pursue their own creative activity, while involving students to give them the opportunity for hands-on experience in the production process.
