Clinical Assistant Professor, Film Marketing and Distribution, Tempe/Mesa – The Sidney Poitier New American Film School

Job description:

The Sidney Poitier New American Film School at Arizona State University seeks a full-time Clinical Assistant Professor in film with expertise in marketing and distribution for film, television and/or short film. This is a full-time fixed-term position. This position will be appointed across two of ASU’s locations—the ASU Tempe Campus and the Media and Immersive eXperience (MIX) Center in Mesa. Teaching will occur in those locations. The start date for this position is Fall 2023.

Our new colleague will be well versed in film, television and/or short film marketing and distribution. The primary responsibility for the Clinical Assistant Professor will be teaching courses including introduction and intermediate film and media marketing and business practices, as well as developing new courses in the candidate’s area of expertise, interest, or specialization. The Clinical Assistant Professor of marketing and business practices may be required to teach a combination of in-person, online, and hybrid courses, in addition to mentoring students through aspects of the Sidney Poitier New American Film School capstone sequences. The Clinical Assistant Professor is expected to maintain their own research or creative and practice, and will contribute appropriate service to the school, the Herberger Institute, the university, and the community.

Required qualifications:

  • Applicants must hold an MA, MFA, or PHD in film/media, business and marketing, or a related field, and have a minimum of three years of professional experience in business and marketing in the film/media industry; or an BA/BFA in business and marketing, or a related field, and five or more years of professional experience in business and marketing in the film/media industry. International applicants must hold a terminal degree in film or a related field in order to be considered.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience at the secondary or college level.
  • Demonstrated success in marketing and distributing work that exemplifies inclusion, diversity, equity, and social engagement.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with film, television and/or short film marketing and distribution.

Desired qualifications:

  • Experience developing new coursework and academic curriculums/programs including online and/or hybrid courses.
  • Experience in network or studio development.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience in all phases of film, television, new emerging media, or short form production, distribution, and marketing. 
  • Track record of research or creative work.
  • Ability to develop partnerships.
