NYU Professor to Give Talk on Julia Child and TV Cooking Shows
| On October 6 at 3:30pm in SCOB 252, NYU Professor Dana Polan gave a presentation from his forthcoming book, "Julia Child’s 'The French Chef'." Professor Polan’s presentation examined the cooking show as a genre of television with special attention given to "Julia Child’s 'The French Chef'." He offers an intellectual history in which Julia Child is treated as a key actor in 1960s America and situates "The French Chef" in relation to both other host-driven programs in the 1950s and 1960s and the history of cooking pedagogy on television prior to the show’s premiere. |
